A blessing ~ Starting to Show

I have a friend from high school, who is now a blogger, Mrs. Shortcake over at 'The Haus'. Long story short, she's been attempting to become pregnant and glory hallelujah she is carrying a little one! Check out her blog to follow her journey to motherhood.

On that note, no pun intended...she does enjoy inspirational music and I think I found the perfect song for her heading into her 13th week. I think any mother would enjoy it. Click the link/title to go to CBC3 which has a ton of Jill Barber songs including this one. You can stream it. (Apparently the link I had earlier didn't work..darn).

Jill Barber

From the top of my head
To my tippy toes
I am in love
And it's starting to show

I want you to know
But don't know where to begin
I can outline my feelings
But I can't fill them in

Oh I am in love
And it's starting to grow
With its roots firmly planted
In the earth below

It's true what they say
You will reap what you sew
You grow stronger and stronger
In time

It's so easy to tell
There's an apple in my eye
I can't hide it so well
So I don't even try

You are an arrow
And my heart the bullseye
You're a sure shot baby
Every time

I was walking in a circle
Staring down at my feet
When I met you half way
It felt strangely complete

Had a melody to play
But it kept missing the beat
Now I could carry that tune all the way
To the moon, to the moon

Oh my tongue hits the floor
At the thought of your touch
My heart next to yours
Skips double dutch

There isn't much more
That a girl could ask for
Please and thank you
Very much

Oh I am in love
And it's starting to show
From the tip of my cap
To the bottom of my sole

So tuck me sweet
And dance me slow
Get me high
And dip me low

I am in love
And I want you to know
It grows wiser and stronger
In time

In this life

This song goes out to all of my good friends who have found love--in all forms. I am so thankful for having RB in my life. And when I look at all the friends I have, I know that I am blessed.

Let me show you what I'm made of
Good intentions are not enough
To get me though today and this life.
You're in the basement watching the TV,
I'm on the second floor watching the ceiling.
We sleep underneath the same big sky at night.
I dream the same dream we can fly

[J & J, together since 2003, married since July 26th, 2008]

You can run from me
You can hide form me
But I am right beside you
In this life.

[S & L, driving each other nuts since late 2004]

Let me tell you who you really are
You're my comfort
You're not a superstar
I can reach up and bring you back down to the ground
And give you everything you dream about

[S, K and S, a family since 2006, married April 2007]

You can run from me
You can hide from me
But I am right beside you
In this life.

[S & S, married 2007]

I'll give you all the things that I never get
Give you all I have and have no regret
Take you to the places that I've never been
Forgive you all the things that you cant forget
Take away the pain with my healing hands
Wash away your sins and set your spirit free

[S & K, together since 2007]

You can run from me
You can hide from me
But I am right beside you
In this life.
Let me show you what I'm made of

[Mum & B, married February 2006]

[R & D, together since 2008, and in the future married 2011..married 55 years with many beautiful children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. RB, remember I'm right beside you, in this life.]

The Book of Love

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing
But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything
The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I
I love it when you sing to me
And you
You can sing me anything
The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know
But I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
And I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings
You ought to give me wedding rings

My heart is racing, anticipating, I love Tennessee...

This is another shameless review of an artist that I know and love, Kristal Barrett. She's a friend, and country singer from Abbotsford, British Columbia (my hometown). We went to elementary school together in Mission, British Columbia and I am so totally proud of her. We managed to bump into each other at the mall a few years back and she recognized me. I haven't changed much. And actually she hasn't changed much either. Still the cutie I remembered.

Anyway we got to talking and it turned out she was leaving soon for Toronto to pursue a music career. Since then, she has returned from Toronto, fresh and full of new ideas and experience. She's working for Country 107.1FM in Abbotsford and released last year her debut CD High on Life. She truly has a genuine country voice--very warm and inviting. Her album is excellent and my favourite is "Tennessee".

You can check out her album in stores in B.C. or on itunes as of last week!

And I will love you, after the war

As we just celebrated our nations' birthday it has made me think about our history and how far we've come--and just how far we have to go. I recently watched the movie Passchendaele written and directed by Canadian actor Paul Gross (remember the hottie from Due South?) that is based on a true story of a Canadian soldier who faught the famous battle at Passchendaele.

Sergeant Michael Dunne fights in the 10th Battalion, AKA The "Fighting Tenth" with the 1st Canadian Division and participated in all major Canadian battles of the war, and set the record for highest number of individual bravery awards for a single battle.

Paul Gross also helped write what I would say is the "theme song" for the movie, titled "After the War" and sung by another talented Canadian folk-singer, Sarah Slean. I couldn't have chosen a better person to sing this song--perhaps Sarah McLachlan, but I love Sarah's voice. Take a listen and perhaps think about our heritage and our history and the brave men and women who managed to survive without water, food and safe shelter while many of us cannot survive without a cell phone, internet or a car. If you're not Canadian, this probably still applies to you--Americans, European, African, Japanese, Australian, etc. The song makes me tear up and think of my Granda who fought in World War II in the Battle of Arnhem. He was a paratrooper, one of the red baret's who fought with the British 1st Airborne Division paratroopers.

My granda could be one of these!

I was very lucky that a bomb that landed near him, did not kill him and I grew up to know him until his passing when I was around 14 or 15 years old. N'oublie pas, never forget. Je t'aime mon grand pere! tu me manques..I miss you. xo.

Come on ride the train...to 1996!

Come on ride the train with me back to 1996, Space Jam, and some sweet dance moves. Beyonce look out, these are your roots, girl!

What songs remind you of your awkward teenage years, that you dare admit you still boogy to?
